Sunday 15th January 2023 – 10am

Let’s start the New Year with a healthy positive step – fresh air and a walk!

Join us for a walk on Chobham Common, the largest National Nature Reserve in the south east of England managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust.   The walk will be approximately 2.5 miles (approx. 60 mins walking) on the common so wear appropriate footwear as could be stoney and muddy.

Departing Costa at Sunningdale at 10am we will walk over the railway bridge and onto the common, one of the most ancient and characteristic British landscapes, originally created by prehistoric farmers.  For over 200 generations rural communities have carefully managed this stunning open countryside creating a wonderful wildlife rich patchwork of mini-habitats.  The few surviving heathlands are very special places providing a living link to our stone age past

The walk will also take in the Memorial Cross erected in 1901, listed for historical value to mark the spot where Queen Victoria reviewed 8129 troops on June 21 1853 before Aldershot establishment was founded.

We will return to Costa for coffee and cake!
